We took the evening Felucca ride and loved every minute of it! The view of downtown Cairo, all lit up along the river, was amazing, and we even saw a few boats with live music sailing by. The pick-up from our hotel was super easy, our guide was friendly and fun, and the wooden sailboat made it feel really special. The Koshary meal was a nice surprise, totally different from what we usually eat, but so tasty! Definitely one of the best things we did in Cairo.

DESIGN AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Each Felucca is handmade from wood and can take weeks to build. They typically range from 7 to 15 meters long and are steered using a large wooden rudder. The traditional lateen sail, a triangular sail mounted on a long, angled yard, allows the boat to catch the Nile’s shifting winds efficiently.
NO ENGINE, ONLY WIND
Feluccas don’t have engines; they rely entirely on the wind to move. When there’s not enough wind, smaller boats or motorboats are sometimes used to tow them.
